TREATMENT ORIENTATION: I practice cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), which is a class of therapy that includes several different approaches and techniques that are tailored to the individual’s unique goals, values, and difficulties. Research has demonstrated that CBT is effective in treating many disorders, including anxiety and mood disorders. I have particular expertise in treating OCD and related disorders (such as body dysmorphic disorder, tic disorders, hair-pulling and skin-picking), as well as other anxiety disorders. The type of CBT treatment that I offer for OCD is called exposure and response prevention (ERP), which is a first-line treatment for OCD. I do not have expertise in working with couples or families.
TREATMENT APPROACH AND PATIENT’S ROLE: CBT is a highly collaborative treatment approach. I have certain expertise vis a vis anxiety, depression, and treatment techniques. Each individual has expertise in his or her own experiences and goals. Together we collaborate to design and implement a treatment plan. You have an active role in treatment both in and out of session, and are much more likely to meet your goals if you embrace that role. In general, the first sessions are dedicated to conducting a careful assessment of your difficulties and treatment options. I will share my impressions and offer a treatment recommendation. If we both agree that working together is appropriate, we will develop a treatment plan and commence. If either you or I believe that I am not in the best position to meet your needs, I will try to offer an appropriate referral. In addition, I welcome and encourage feedback at all times.
SERVICES: I see patients in Bryn Mawr, PA, which is a suburb of Philadelphia on the Main Line. I see most patients for weekly 60-min sessions, and some for weekly 90-min sessions. However, some individuals prefer a more intensive approach, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals with more severe symptoms and/or those who do not reside in the Greater Philadelphia area. To discuss whether a more intensive treatment program is possible and appropriate, please contact me.
PAYMENT: Payment is due at each session. I am not considered an in-network provider for any insurance plans. However, I am happy to provide you information or forms necessary for you to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.
