I am an associate professor of psychology at Swarthmore College. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and I hold the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) under PSYPACT.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, I am a visiting associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research.
Before moving to Swarthmore in August 2016, I was an assistant professor of psychology in the College of Psychology at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). At NSU, I directed the Anxiety Treatment Center and the NSU OCD and Related Disorders (NORD) Program.
EDUCATION:
CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: I am a licensed clinical psychologist in Pennsylvania and Maryland. I completed my doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania, where I studied with foremost pioneers in OCD treatment and cognitive-behavior therapy, including Drs. Edna Foa, Jonathan Grayson, and Dianne Chambless. I then completed a 1-year pre-doctoral internship at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School. Following the internship, I completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the MGH and Harvard Medical School in the MGH OCD and Related Disorders Program, where I trained with renowned OCD researchers and clinicians, Drs. Michael Jenike, Sabine Wilhelm, and Lee Baer.
I accepted an invitation by Drs. Aaron T. Beck and Judith Beck to be a Beck Institute Scholar in 2013. The scholarship included advanced training, workshops and supervision for “individuals who…have and will continue to make significant contributions to the field of cognitive therapy.”

RESEARCH: I conduct research on the development, maintenance, and treatment of anxiety disorders, especially OCD. I am particularly interested in cognition, including information-processing, meta-cognition (thinking about thinking), and decision-making in OCD and anxiety. Another emphasis is the OCD symptom dimension referred to as unacceptable thoughts, which includes violent, religious, and sexual obsessions. For example, I received a research grant from the International OCD Foundation to study scrupulosity, an OCD presentation characterized by religious or moral fears. I also received a President's Faculty Research and Development Grant at NSU to study attention bias in dental anxiety.
ACADEMIC SERVICE: Among other activities, I serve on the editorial boards for the journals Behavior Therapy, Journal of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders, and Bulletin of the Menninger Clinic, and am an ad hoc reviewer for many other journals. I was previously on the editorial board for Frontiers in Psychology: Psychopathology, as well. I have served on committees for the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology. I was a member of the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 ABCT Program Committees, and the Scientific Committees for the World Congress of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies in Boston during July 2010, Peru during July 2013, and Germany during July 2019.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS: I am a member of the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, International OCD Foundation, Society of Clinical Psychology (American Psychological Association, Division 12), and Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology (American Psychological Association, Division 12, Section III).
